Hurley Lee Smith

Mr. Hurley Lee Smith, 88, of Lambsburg, VA, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, VA. Mr. Smith was born November 16, 1922, in Surry County, to the late Roby Anderson and Sarah Elizabeth Golding Smith. He retired as a sawmill owner and operator. Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rachel Senter Smith; a daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Edward Burnett of Galax, VA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Eugene and Linda Smith and Wilmer Smith, all of Lambsburg, VA; three grandsons; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Coleson of Lambsburg, VA; and a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Faye Smith of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Audrey Faye Smith; two sisters, Hazel Golding and Annie Ruth Smith; and five brothers, Clarence Smith, Glen Smith, Claude Smith, Crissie Smith, and Bobby Smith. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 11:00 AM at W.H. Stantliff Cemetery in Lambsburg, VA, with the Rev. Donald G. Bryant, Sr. officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time to leave for the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the American Red Cross, Surry County Chapter, 844 Westlake Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or Moody Funeral Services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030 to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
