Mrs. Ida Mae Moretz Cummings, 75, devoted wife of Mr. Howard Claude Cummings, of Elkin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday April 9, 2009 as her loving family stood by her bedside. She was born in Grayson County, Virginia on June 22, 1933 to the late Ira Foster and Lena Wooten Moretz. Mrs. Cummings was a retired seamstress from Tultex Industries and a faithful member of Welcome View Baptist Church. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Howard Claude Cummings of the home with whom she shared a life filled with love for fifty-eight years. They were blessed with four daughters Deborah Kaye and husband Charles Woods of Mount Airy, Rebecca and husband Dale Sechrist of Cana, VA., Janie and husband Mike O'Neal of Dobson and Sharon Lyon of Boonville; two sons, Michael David and wife Dianne Cummings of Mount Airy and Gary "Peanut" and wife Dee Cummings of Elkin; twelve grandchildren Jason Cummings, Justin Cummings, Tina Craddock, Glenn Woods Glenda Sumner, Jonathan Sechrist, Daniel Sechrist, Trent O'Neal, Patrick O'Neal, Blake Lyon, Brandon Lyon and Jordan Lyon,; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Kyle and Sandy Moretz, Larry and Ellen Moretz and Catherine Moretz all of Galax, VA. and a brother-in-law James Dean of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cummings was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Billings and Bertha Dean and two brothers, Eugene Moretz and Maynard Moretz. Her funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday April 13, 2009 at Welcome View Baptist Church by Rev. Marty Reece, Brother Mickey Brooks, Rev. Jimmy Tucker with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 12, 2009 from 6 to 8 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to The Children's Center of Surry, Inc. PO Box 692 Dobson, NC 27017 or to the Grace Clinic 170 Claremont Drive Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care especially Crystal McHone and Dr. Erlandson for their compassionate love and care.
