Mrs. Ida Mae Gammons Martin, 95, of 328 Cook School Road, Pilot Mountain, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Martin was born December 6, 1913, in Surry County, daughter of the late George and Sally Johnson Gammons. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sybil and Junior Callahan of Pilot Mountain; a son, Leon Martin of the home; a granddaughter and her husband, Juna and Alan Easter of Pilot Mountain; two great-grandchildren, Hope Easter and Matthew Easter, both of Pilot Mountain; a sister, Clinnie Hall of Mount Airy; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Gammons of Mount Airy; and several "special friends." In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Martin; three sisters, Vadie Hall, Addie France, and Gracie Hall; and two brothers, W.E "Bill" Gammons and Elery Gammons. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Tommy Floyd, and burial will follow in the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
