Ida Hodges Stone

Mrs. Ida Dorothy Hodges Stone, 103, of Mt. Airy passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  She was born in Surry County on June 8, 1918, to the late Pleasant Columbus and Nancy Catherine “Kate” Jarvis Hodges.  Mrs. Stone was a member of New Life Baptist Church, and taught Sunday School for over 20 years.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.  She is survived by daughters, Peggy Hall, and Katie Venable; a son, Jimmie Stone; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several step grandchildren, and step great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Cecil Stone; son and daughters-in-law, Frankie and Carol Stone, and Evelyn Stone; sons-in-law, John Hall, and Jerry Venable; sisters, Annie McHone, and Mary McCann; brothers, Edd Hodges, and Jack Hodges.  A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022, at 3:00 PM at New Life Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Jessup, and the Rev. Oscar Hill officiating.  Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at New Life Baptist Church.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to New Life Baptist Church, c/o Scottie Isaacs, 3080 Haystack Rd., Mt.
