Mrs. Imogene Gunnell Moore, 89, of 1536 Rabbit Ridge Road, Ararat, VA, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009, at her home. She was born February 20, 1920, in Surry County, to the late Floyd Columbus "Lum" and Nancy Noonkester Gunnell. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a mighty Christian. She was retired from Pine State Knitting. Mrs. Moore was a member of the White Sulphur Springs Home Extension Club, Salem United Methodist Church, and a former active member of the Victory Baptist Church. Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Helen and Fred Gwynn and Nancy Haynes, all of Ararat, VA, Lois and Alfred Hiatt of Mount Airy, and Dare and Henry Kimbrough of Mount Ulla; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Hassie Gunter of Mount Airy; and a special friend, Terrie Scales of Ararat, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, James William Moore; a son-in-law, Hansel Haynes; and two brothers, Ralph C. Gunnell, Sr. and Clyde E. Gunnell. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron, pastor, and the Rev. Stewart Roten, hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30-8:30 PM at Salem United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
