Mr. Ira Thomas Wolfe, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, October 19, 2017, at Surry Community Health and Rehab Center. Mr. Wolfe was born January 12, 1925, in Surry County, one of eleven children born to the late William B. and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Jones Wolfe. Ira retired from Duke Energy after 32 years of service and was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Duke Energy Retiree Club, Foothills Chapter, a network of support where retirees come together to participate in special projects, learn about the latest company news, and enjoy fellowship. He was the recipient the club’s “Volunteer of the Year” for two years. He is survived by his wife, Clara Pruett Wolfe of the home; three daughters, Jennifer Wolfe East, Becky Wolfe Griffith, and Elizabeth Wolfe Forrest, all of Mount Airy; a son, David Wolfe of Virginia; a stepdaughter and her husband, Janelle and Jay Beasley of Barnwell, SC; a stepson and his wife, Brian and Belinda Pruett of Newberry, SC; his grandchildren, Shane Wolfe, Amie and Josh Warner, Kelly East, Dani Grace Griffith, Mariah and Justus Frye, Tommy Wolfe, Shane East, Mary Beth Griffith, and Makayla and Taylor Shaw; five great-grandchildren; an expectant great-grandchild; a sister, Hester Wolfe Simpson of Ararat; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wolfe was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Brannock Wolfe; five sisters, Nannie Marion, Sadie Davis, Mae Coe, Lillie Whitaker, and Carrie Casstevens; and four brothers, Willie Wolfe, Edd Wolfe, Roger Wolfe, and Kemp Wolfe. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 22, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Graham Mosley, 1090 Brayford Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
