Mrs. Irene Roberts Belton, 107, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 27, 2018, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Belton was born April 30, 1910, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Opie Urban “Dick” and Hattie Saunders Roberts. Irene was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Edward Bonahue of Farrington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Nancy Belton and Bill and Jeanette Belton, all of Mount Airy; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Belton was preceded in death by her husband, E.C. “Babe” Belton; a daughter-in-law, Diane Belton; two sisters, Mary Roberts Henneberry and Mildred Roberts Singletary; and five brothers, Jim Roberts, Woodrow Roberts, Bill Roberts, Frank Roberts, and Don Roberts. A service of worship and celebration of Irene’s life will be held Friday, March 30, 2018, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jay Meadows officiating. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Organ Fund, 714 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
