Miss Murphy Irene Rodgers, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born August 24, 1941, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Malvin Alex and Murphy Jane Mabe Rodgers. Irene treasured her red purses and jewelry and loved to spend time with her two great-great-nephews, Jackson Wall and Wesley Burge. She loved playing bingo and going for rides on the mountain where she kissed a llama. She had a smile that was the sweetest. She loved coming to our Christmas parties and was so excited about Christmas this year. She had no idea that it would be her best yet. She celebrated in Heaven with Jesus, Granny, and Pa. Left to cherish her memories are her sister, Betty White (Bruce); her guardian and niece, Connie Burge (Garland); two other nieces, Marilyn Wright and Renee Snow (David Hammond); five nephews, Alex Rodgers, Jackie Rodgers, Mark Rodgers (Tammy), Tracy Rodgers (Heidi), and B.J. Snow (Rose); nine great-nieces; sixteen great-nephews; six great-great-nephews; five great-great-nieces; several cousins; and many friends at Central Continuing Care. In addition to her parents, Miss Rodgers was preceded in death by her two brothers, J.D. Rodgers and James Rodgers; and a nephew, Jimmy Rodgers. A service of worship and celebration of Miss Rodgers’ life will be held Sunday, January 3, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Pinnacle View Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Chamblin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Rodgers family.
