II Corinthians 5:8 - Mrs. Irene Scott Scearce Tilley, 92, of 400 Heatherton Lane, Rural Hall, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 2010, from Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Tilley was born January 6, 1918, in Surry County, one of thirteen children born to the late Charlie William and Lucinda Hooker Scott. Irene was an evangelist for over 50 years, ministering in many churches and nursing homes in her later years, and was a member of Walkertown Treasure of Life Church of God. She retired as a manager from White Rock Rest Home in Winston-Salem after 20 years of service. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Ted Griffin of Winston-Salem, Zerita and Todd Rumsey of Sandy Ridge, and Charlene and Deran Wyatt of Yadkinville; a daughter-in-law, Frances Scearce of Mooresville; eight grandchildren, Keith Griffin, Karin Tolbert, Mike Scearce, Steve Scearce, Kimberly Layne, Matthew Wyatt, Haley Marks, and Ashlea Speer; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Jessup, Ava Hutchens, and Alyene and Haywood Young, all of Mount Airy; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, the Rev. Carl Scott of Claudville, VA, the Rev. Deward and Louise Scott of Mount Airy, and Herbert and Gail Scott of St. Augustine, FL. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tilley was preceded in death by her first husband, Isaac Scearce; her second husband, Ted Warren Tilley; a son, Aubrey Scearce; a great-granddaughter, Michele Tolbert; three sisters, Hazel McMillian, Helen Key, and Nellie Marion; and three brothers, Eugene Scott, Paul Scott, and J.C. Scott. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Pastor Dennis L. McCown officiating. Entombment will follow at the Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Walkertown. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walkertown Treasure of Life Church of God, P.O. Box 185, Walkertown, NC 27051-0185.
