Iris Elizabeth Copeland Dickson

Mrs. Iris Elizabeth Copeland Dickson, 90, of Galax, VA, formerly of Lowgap, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2008, at Twin County Hospital. Mrs. Dickson was born March 15, 1918, in Grayson County, VA, to Sommers and Lela Robinson Copeland. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Mrs. Dickson was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and the Rev. Bill Spurlin and Judy and the Rev. Romey Flippin, all of Lowgap; a son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Trish Dickson of Lowgap; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dickson was preceded in death by her husband, Bower Dickson; a daughter, Janis Hodges; a son, Jerry Dickson; two infant grandchildren; two sisters; and four brothers. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 7, 2008, at 2:00 Pm at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Spurlin and the Rev. Sam Holder, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
