Iris Pauline Easter Hawks

Mrs. Iris Pauline Easter Hawks, 86, of Cana, VA, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Hawks was born April 27, 1924, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Emanuel and Hattie Smith Easter. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Hawks is survived by a daughter, Geraldine Leonard and her special friend, Marlie Edwards, both of Cana, VA; a grandson and his wife, Gary and Leslie Leonard of Cana, VA; three great-grandchildren, Allie Leonard, Luke Leonard, and Jed Leonard; a nephew and his wife, Bob and Jeanette Leonard of Cana, VA; and special family friends, Frank and Pat Tate of Lambsburg, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Easter was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Junior Hawks; and a sister, Foy Lee Leonard. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 17, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Freeman and the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 16, 2010, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Mrs. Hawks. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their appreciation to family, friends and neighbors; the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice; and the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care that was given to Mrs. Hawks during her illness.
