J. B. Mayes

Mr. J.B. Mayes, age 76 of Dobson passed away at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. He was born in Surry County on June 28, 1930 to the late Thomas Bonson Mayes and the late Grace Rhudy Edwards. He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren and was a retired Truck Driver. Surviving are his wife Rachel Southard Mayes of the home; daughter and son-in-law Norma and Junior Whitaker of Elkin; Sons and daughter-in-laws James and Sharon Mayes of Danville, Va., Garry and Brenda Mayes of Wilmington, NC, Step Sons and their wives, Gary and Adale White of Elkin, Terry and Susan White of State Road, Jeff and Cathy White of Elkin; Step Father John Edwards of Dobson; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Sue and Jake Shelton of Dobson; his special Dog and friend Twinkle. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, with burial to follow in the Mulberry Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. Rev. Wallace Cole will officiate the service. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Saturday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
