Mr. Jack Davis Childress, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away early Monday morning, July 29, 2019, at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Mr. Childress was born April 13, 1937, in Surry County, the son of the late Robert Summerfield and Beatrice Bowman Childress.  Jack served our country in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Baptist faith.  He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Childress Williard; three grandchildren, Christopher Childress, Christian Childress, and Joshua Dale Williard; a great-grandson, Landon Thomas Williard; and a special niece, Charlotte Fleming.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Childress was preceded in death by a son, Randle Davis Childress; two sisters, Claudia Childress Wood and Lillie Childress Fleming; and four brothers, Eugene Childress, Ted Childress, Clarence Childress, and Larry Childress.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Brannock officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard.  No formal visitation will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
