Mr. Jack Gibson Hardy, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013, at his home. Mr. Hardy was born December 19, 1925, in Surry County, to the late James Ethard and Annie Ausborne Hardy. He bravely served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II and continued serving with the Mount Airy National Guard, dedicating over 20 years of service. He retired as a foreman from Proctor-Silex Inc. and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hardy is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Hardy Scott and Jimmie of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, John Ewell Scott and his friend, Lacy Thompkins, and Lena Catherine Scott and her special friend, James Hooker; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Scott, LaKinzie Scott, and Shaylee Scott; his stepgranddaughter, Leslie Scott and her three children, LeAnna, Keaton, and Allie; four sisters, Mae Turpin, Frieda Chauncey, Barbara Lane, and Billie Bradley, all of Mount Airy; and his many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Harris and Mildred Schmitz; and a brother, Wade Hardy. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 18, 2013, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. Steve Lindsley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, with full military honors. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:30 until 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
