Jack Charles Ward

Jack Charles Ward, 79, of Glade Valley, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
He was born on November 29, 1938 in Buncombe County to the late George Edward and Thelma Lee Smith Ward. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Carole Ward; granddaughter, Alexandra Leigh Ward; brothers, Ross and Richard Ward; sisters, Areda Ward, Sandra Sams, and Suzie Clark.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, George Edward and Sandy Lambert Ward; grandson, Kyle Andrew and wife, Nicole Marie Ward; great granddaughter, Gianna Marie Ward; sisters, Ruby Smart, Geraldine Hall, and Dana Byrd; numerous nieces and nephews; and ‘extra special’ family, H. Seymour and Jennifer Robinson.
Jack retired as Superintendent with the NC Department of Corrections in Union County after 34 years of service. At his retirement ceremony in January of 1995, he was presented with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his extraordinary service to the state of North Carolina.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 30 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US 70 Highway, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
