Jackie Ray Gibbs

          Mr. Jackie Ray Gibbs, age 77 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart.  He was born in Henry County on September 10, 1941, and was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian David Newman; his mother, Ruth Minter Gibbs Boswell, his step-father, Hubert Boswell, a brother, Fred Douglas Gibbs, and a nephew, Harold W. Burgess, III.  He was a member of Harvest Worship Center, and retired from Pine Products, Inc. with eighteen years of service.  He had served in the United States Air Force from 1960 through 1966.  He enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing and NFL Football and was a dedicated husband and a loving father who was well loved by all who knew him.

          Mr. Gibbs is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ellen Shirlene Martin Gibbs of the home; two children, Teresa Gibbs Newman and husband, James Gary Newman of Patrick Springs, Jason Todd Gibbs and wife, Tanya Adams Gibbs of Stuart; four grandchildren, James Gabriel Newman of Patrick Springs, Christopher Scott Cobler and wife, Amanda of Elkin, North Carolina, Courtney René Cobler of Huntington, West Virginia, Britney Lee Reynolds of Mount Airy, North Carolina; two great granddaughters; five siblings, Bobby Gene Gibbs and wife, Joyce of Danville, Kenneth Earl Gibbs and wife, Beth of Martinsville, Madeline Gibbs Philpott of Martinsville, Judy Boswell Seidle and husband, Ralph of Firestone, Gale Boswell Burgess and husband, the Honorable Harold W. Burgess, Jr. of Midlothian; and many nieces and nephews.

          A memorial service will be held Monday, April 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Harvest Worship Center with Dr. David T. Coleman officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.  Burial will be private.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service at the church, and at other times at the home.  Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of the arrangements, and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
