Mrs. Jackinette Mauldin Deaton, 80, widow of Marvin David Deaton, of Dobson passed away on Monday August 24, 2009 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on January 9, 1929 to the late Ellis Clifton and Veola Hatfield Mauldin. Mrs. Deaton was a veteran of the United States Air Force where she served our country during the Korean Conflict. Prior to the death, she was employed by Experience Works of Surry, Stokes and Yadkin Counties. She was a loving mother and a dedicated member of Salem Baptist Church and an avid member of the Red Hat Society. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Rebecca Nichols Surratt and husband David of White Plains, Barbara Dupree of Mount Airy and Mary Catherine Dalton of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two special friends, Deamie Thompson and Donna Smyrdel. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Deaton was preceded in death by a brother, William Clifton "Bud" Mauldin. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday August 27, 2009 at Salem Baptist Church by Rev. Darrell Tate and Dr. Bobby Lewis with burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm on Wednesday August 26, 2009 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund, 430 Rockford Road Dobson, NC 27017 or to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Gail McCreary and Candy Lawson and the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for all the compassionate care given to Mrs. Deaton and her family during her stay there.
