Jake Jessup passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011, in New Braunfels, TX, at the age of 91. Jake was born February 5, 1919, in Ararat, VA, to his parents, William M. Jessup and Della McBride Jessup. In 1940, Jake served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for the maximum allowed period of six months. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and spent 3½ years in the Pacific Theater "trying to stay alive." He retired from the United States Air Force in 1964. His memberships included the Retired Air Force Association and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. located in Schertz, TX. Jake is survived by his wife, Mable Quinn Jessup; his son, Jerry Jessup and his wife, Etoile; his daughter, Judy Gutierrez; a brother, Arthur Jessup and his wife, Marie; three grandchildren, Karen Coleman and her husband, Kevin, Russell Jessup and his wife, Jeannie, and Jennifer Montoya. The great-grandchildren include Jessica Coleman, Rosalyn Jessup, and Victor Villarreal. Jake also leaves behind two step-children, Lynn Barnette and Dorothy Gregg. Jake is predeceased by his first wife, Mabel Smith Jessup. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home located at Canyon Lake, TX. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 6, 2010, at 3:30 PM at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will be Friday, January 7, 2011, at 10:45 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice.
