Mr. James Edward "Tony" Bowman, 83, of Mt. Airy passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Surry County on August 28, 1932 to the late Neal Garnett and Linis Lovill Brown. Mr. Bowman was retired from Tech Form and was a member of the Salvation Army. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Puckett Bowman of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Neal and Lisa Bowman of King, Johnny and Pam Bowman of Cana, VA, Kelly and Beth Bowman of Mocksville; a step-daughter, Sharon Hiatt of Mt. Airy; step-sons and spouses, Mike and Linda Hiatt, Dennis Hiatt, Steve Hiatt all of Mt. Airy, Mark and Mindy Hiatt of Pilot Mountain; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Bobbitt, Patricia “Chick” Phillips both of Mt. Airy; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a step-son, Bruce Hiatt; sisters, Frances McElfresh, and Barbara Bowman; a brother, Herbert Bowman. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Major Mike Rogers officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion King Post 290 . The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017 or to the Salvation Army, 651 South St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
