James H. Bowman

James H. Bowman, age 77 of West Monterey, Clarion County, PA. died Wednesday, August 16, 2006, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born, August 5, 1929 in Mt. Airy, NC, he was the son of the late Tyrie and Maggie Felts Bowman. He was a graduate of Mount Airy High School. He also graduated from Clarion State College with a major in accounting and a minor in real estate. Mr. Bowman served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and Vietnam War over a span of 20 years, from December 1946 to December 1966 as an engineer equipment repair technician and also escorted American war dead. He was discharged with the rank of chief warrant officer W-3. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, a National Defense Service Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a Vietnam Service Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. Mr. Bowman worked in the financial aid office at Clarion State College and was an income tax accountant in the West Monterey, PA area. Mr. Bowman was a member of the American Legion Post No. 636 in Foxburg and was a life member of the VFW Post No. 7073 in Parker, PA. He was married December 16, 1953, to Janet L. Smith of West Monterey, PA. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, James H. Bowman, Jr. and William Bowman and wife Doreen; a daughter, Dinah Bowman and husband, Richard Siebka and one grandson, Brandon Bowman all of PA. Also survived by four brothers, Cecil Bowman and wife Brenda, Lyrine Bowman all of Mt. Airy, NC, Chipper Bowman and wife Robbie of Rural Hall, NC, and Everette Bowman and wife, Cindy of Winston Salem, NC; four sisters, Irene Collins and Pansy Chaney and husband Arthur all of Mt. Airy, NC, Betty Combs and husband Charles of King, NC, and Mary Etta Nichols and husband Albert of Pilot Mountain, NC. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 10, 2006 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy, NC by Linda Blessing. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Memorials may be made to the Foxburg Free Library, P. O. Box 304, Foxburg, PA. 16036.
