James Harvey Bowman, Jr

Mr. James Harvey “Buck” Bowman, Jr., 75, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017, at his home. Mr. Bowman was born September 28, 1942, in Surry County, to the late James Harvey Bowman, Sr. and Annie Johnson Bowman. He was a building superintendent for Frank L. Blum Construction Company in Winston-Salem for 44 years. Mr. Bowman was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church, where he served as a former deacon, adult Sunday school class president, a member of the finance committee, a member of the building and grounds committee, and a member of numerous other committees. He was very instrumental in the construction of the sanctuary at Bannertown Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Imogene Gwyn Bowman of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Philip “Phil” and Kim Bowman of Wake Forest and Derrick and Tina Bowman of Raleigh; two stepgrandchildren, Ashlyn Burns and Jake Burns; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela and Bill Jarrell and Carol and Davis Jessup, all of Mount Airy; a brother, Dwight Bowman of Westfield; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Wayne and Edith Gwyn and John and Rita Gwyn, all of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law and her husband, Ann and Jewal Haynes of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 16, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Bannertown Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mickey Cogdill and the Rev. Matt Bunker officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at Bannertown Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bannertown Baptist Church Building Fund, 1834 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the family.
