James Kenneth Boyd

Mr. James Kenneth Boyd of Mount Airy, N.C. passed away on Sunday - February 6, 2022 after a brief illness. Mr. Boyd was born May 29, 1936 in Surry County to the late Harvey Kermit and Margie Thomas Boyd. Mr. Boyd retired as Water Treatment Supervisor with thirty-six years of service to the City of Mount Airy. In his honor, the reservoir at the F.G. Doggett Water Treatment Plant was dedicated and named the James K. Boyd Reservoir. Mr. Boyd was a member of the Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616, Scottish Rite, Winston-Salem, N.C. In addition, he served as President Post J of The Travelers Protective Association. He was a lifetime member of the North Carolina Waterworks Operators Association and active member of the Salem United Methodist Church serving in numerous roles and a long-time volunteer and board member for Yokefellow Ministry. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by three sisters, Susan Boyd Gravley, Emily Boyd Hiatt and Mary Frances Boyd McMillian and one brother, Thomas Harvey Boyd. Survivors include a son, James Taylor Boyd of Charlotte, N.C., one sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Wade Ayers of Mount Airy, N.C., his best friend of seventy-five years, Kenneth Busick of Mount Airy, N.C.; and several nieces and a nephew.  A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 2:00PM at Oakdale Cemetery with services conducted by Rev. Bud Cameron and Rev. Chris Langham. Due to Covid-19, masks are required.  In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to Salem United Methodist Church 2591 Wards Gap Road Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
