James Raymond Branson

Mr. James Raymond “Pa” Branson, 75, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, October 29, 2022, at his home.  Mr. Branson was born May 8, 1947, in Surry County, one of four children born to the late James Willie and Ada Jones Branson.  James served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from United Plastics.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet LaVon Branscome Branson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Jaymee and Jeff Chandler of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, James Lee Branson, Ethan Thomas Chandler, and Daisy Lauren Branson, all of Mount Airy; a sister, Bessie Surratt of Mount Airy; a brother, Jerry Lee Branson of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and his special, adopted family.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Branson was preceded in death by a son, James Landon Branson; a sister, Margaret Hanks; and a niece, Brittany Branson.  A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Jarred Seal and Daisy Lauren Branson officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard.  No formal visitation will be held.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff from Surry County Emergency Medical Services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
