Mr. James Clayton Johnson, 84, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Village Care of King. Mr. Johnson was born May 15, 1936, in Surry County, to the late James “Jim” and Ima Mae Bingman Johnson. He loved his Lord, his family, and his friends. Clayton never met a stranger. He retired from Mount Airy Oil Company and was a farmer. Mr. Johnson was a member of Woodville Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Marlene Simmons Johnson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Nadine and David Shelton; a son, Bradley Johnson; a grandson, Dwight Shelton; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Virginia T. Johnson; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arvid and Joyce A. Simmons. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 26, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Joe Smith and the Rev. Kevin Kilby officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
