James Franklin "Gene" Frye

Mr. James Franklin "Gene" Frye, 83, of 209 Forest Hill Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, October 14, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Frye was born November 25, 1924, in Patrick County, VA, to the late James Anderson and Lucy Alice Wright Frye. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II as a medical supply specialist, and a member of VFW Post 2019 in Mount Airy. Gene was a member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF and AM, a member of the Mount Airy Elks Lodge, and retired from F. Rees Company after 49 years of service. Mr. Frye was a member of First Baptist Church, where he had served in many capacities. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Vaughn Frye of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jackie Frye of the home and Johnny and Minnie Frye of Siloam; five grandchildren, Joshua Rees Frye of Raleigh, Ariel Nicole Frye of Mount Airy, and Austin Reed Frye, John Dalton Frye, and James-Wesley Ridge Frye, all of Siloam; and a special friend, Amy S. Sawyers of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Frye was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Hiatt; and a brother, Fletcher Frye. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 16, 2008, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Dr. Roger B. Gilbert, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
