James William Hall

James William (JW) “Pa” Hall, age 86, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at Forsyth Medical Center.  He was born in Surry County to the late James Elbert and Gracie Odell Hall.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, “Granny Edith” Irene Bullin Hall; infant daughter, Hilda Faye Hall and great-grandson, William Paxton Hall; brothers, George Wade Hall and Homer Wayne Hall.  Mr. Hall leaves to cherish his memories two sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Teresa Hall and Terry and Kristie Hall; grandchildren, Michelle Porterfield and husband, Brian, Shane Hall and wife, Bridget, Brooke Leonard and husband, Jason, Nicole Vernon and husband, Garret, Laken Hall and Travis Snow, Alex Brewer and Erin Griffith; great-grandchildren, Alivia Porterfield, Bryson Porterfield, Zoe Hall, Keaton Leonard, Reese Leonard, Adley Leonard, Rowen Vernon, Jax Niles, Eli Snow; brother and sisters-in-law, Monty Herman Hall and wife, Carolyn, Margaret Hall; and a sister, Barbara Jean Hall Freeman.  He was a veteran of the US Army and a farmer most of his life.  He loved the sport of golf and was lucky enough to score 3 holes-in-one after the age of 80.  He loved his Atlanta Braves baseball.  He spent countless hours in his garden and loved to share it with the people in the neighborhood.  He loved baking cakes and having his family every Sunday for lunch.  Mr. Hall will be dearly missed by everyone that knew him.  Due to the present situation, there will be a private graveside service on Friday, September 4, 2020, at Stony Knoll Methodist Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.  Moody-Davis Funeral Service is serving the Hall family.
