James Franklin Hammond, Jr

Mr. James Franklin Hammond, Jr., 61 of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Hammond was born August 8, 1951. He served in the United States Army and retired from the Veteran's Administration. He is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Lester Hammond; children, James Hammond, III, Mathew Thomas, Rebecca Thomas, and Gary Thomas; sister, Loral Hammond; and brothers, Gregory, David, Harvey, and Jeff Hammond; sisters-in-law, Virgie Sloan, Oma Lambert, Brenda Lawson, Betty Lester, and Faye Lester; and brothers-in-law, Larry, Doug, Gene, and Roger Lester. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 4, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Miracle Waters Church, with the Rev. Rodger Easter officiating. Burial will follow at The People's Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Miracle Waters Church. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy will be assisting the Hammond family.
