Mr. James Nelson “Jimmy” Harbour of Mt. Airy, NC passed away at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. He was born on September 15, 1934 in Cameron, NC to the late James Hadley Harbour and Lula Simpson Harbour. Jimmy was an active member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. He attended Copeland High School graduating in 1952. He retired from Quality Oil as sales manager after 42 years of service. Later he worked for Patterson automotive and Mt. Airy Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep as transportation manager. He was a dedicated fireman for the Mt. Airy Fire Department for 27 years. He was honored as fireman of the year in 1966. He was an active member of the Mt. Airy Lions Club for 41 years where served as president, secretary and on other various committees. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ruth Cooke and brother-in-law, Sanford Cooke. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine Hill Harbour, three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Richard Martin, Alison and Tim Bledsoe and Angela and Mark Mayfield; five grandchildren, David Whitaker, Madeline Mayfield, William Mayfield, Morgan Mayfield and Colton Bledsoe; special brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Nancy Hill Robertson, John and Judy Hill and Ronald Hill. Jimmy loved his job and while going through many chemo and radiation treatments for two years, he managed to work almost every day. His passion was watching the Mt. Airy Bears Basketball and Volleyball games and sports his grandchildren were involved in. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 11, 2016 at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall on Monday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service.
