Mr. James William Hayden, age 88, of Dobson, passed away on Sunday afternoon at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born in Patrick Co. VA on April 30, 1921 to the late Thomas Hayden and the late Annie White Hayden. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, was retired from the NC DOT, and was a Veteran of the US Army having served as a First Stg. in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign and was active in the VFW as long as his health permitted. He also was on the Surry County Zoning Board for over Thirty Years. Surviving are his daughter Janice Hayden Barker of Dobson, one son and daughter-in-law Lynn and Dianne Hayden of Dobson; five grandchildren Gina and Lewis Seidenfaden, Kevin and Karen Barker, Roman and Kimberly Barker, Michael Hayden, and Heather Hayden; five great-grandchildren Benjamin Flippin, Teylor Barker, Lauren Barker, Gabriel Barker, and Presley Barker; one sister Irene Key of High Point; one brother and sister-in-law Billy and Betty Hayden of Mt. Airy; special friend Kathleen Johnson, of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in Death by his wife Irma Hutchins Hayden; one sister Ruth Bledsoe; two brothers Harry Hayden and Wilbur Hayden. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday September 9, 2009 at Piney Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Mark Reece and Rev. Todd Byrd with burial in the Church Cemetery, with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436.
The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 PM.Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
