James Harry Hiatt

Mr. James Harry Hiatt, 64, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010, at his home. Mr. Hiatt was born December 22, 1946, in Patrick County, VA, to Carrie Susan Hiatt and the late John Walter Hiatt. He served our country in the United States Army, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his devoted wife, Mary Slate Hiatt of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Shannon Whisnant of Shelby and Tammy and John Potts of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Shanda Whitaker, Justin Whitaker, J.W. Potts, and Brandy France; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Lawson, Little Bill France, and Hallie France; his mother, Carrie Susan Hiatt of Mount Airy; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ted Hiatt, Roger and Margaret Hiatt, and Mack and Janice Hiatt, all of Mount Airy, and Mike and Rita Hiatt of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by two sisters, Dean Bowman and Leatrice Collins. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tucker and the Rev. Larry Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
