James Thomas Hooker

Mr. James Thomas “Tommy” Hooker, age 75, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson on Thursday, September 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving and faithful family. Mr. Hooker was born in Surry County on December 12, 1941 to the late Will and Grace Simmons Hooker. He was a retired assistant superintendent from Vulcan Materials in Winston-Salem, where he was employed with over 40 years of dedicated service. He was an avid North Carolina Tarheel and Green Bay Packers fan. Tommy loved his Lord and was a member of Christ Community Church where he loved his church family dearly. He touched the lives of many families with his kindness and generosity. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda Dollyhigh Hooker; a daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Cannon Sams; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg and Dawn Hooker, and Steve Hooker; his grandchildren whom he adored, Carson Francis, Nicholas and Beth Hooker, Aaron Hooker, and Will Hooker; three sisters, Mary Lou Venable, Nancy Marshall, and Billie and Rev. Russell Parsons; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hooker was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Ruth Doby. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy at 2:00 PM with Dr. David Brady officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Garden. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00pm. The family would like to give a heartfelt Thank You to the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for all of their love and support during Tommy’s illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Community Church, 507 Riverside Dr., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
