James Oliver Hudson

Mr. James Oliver Hudson, 83, of Mount Airy, entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday night, July 20, 2022, from Northern Regional Hospital.  Mr. Hudson was born December 1, 1938, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late William Mallory and Leannah Elizabeth Wood Hudson.  Oliver retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. after 31 years of service.  He was a Mason and a devoted member of Copeland Masonic Lodge #390 AF & AM.  Oliver lived a long and productive life and had been faithful to the Lord.  His Christian faith was truly an essential part of his life.  Not only did he live daily as a Christian example, but he also faithfully served God and others at Piney Grove Baptist Church for many years.  In his spare time, Oliver enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working as a small-engine mechanic.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda Faye Danley Hudson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Fay and Mike Jarrell of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy Oliver and Melanie L. Hudson and Rocky William and Charlotte S. Hudson, all of Mount Airy; five grandchildren and their spouses, Logan and Alex Jarrell, Tyler and Michelle Hudson, the Rev. Tanner and Allie Hudson, Audrey and Clay Nowlin, and Taylor Hudson and her fiancé, Brady Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Landon Jarrell, Amelia Puckett, Caroline Nowlin, Luke Nowlin, Haven Faye Hudson, Trevor Hudson, and Trace Hudson; several sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Evelyn Hudson, Russell and Barbara Danley, Vickie Danley, and Linda Danley; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Wilma Simpson and Denise Ward.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Hudson May and Rebecca Hudson Blue; and three brothers, Odell Hudson, Mallory Hudson, Jr., and Henry Hudson.  A service of worship and celebration of Oliver’s life will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tanner Hudson, Dr. Darrell Tate, and Bro. Tim Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Copeland Masonic Lodge #390 AF & AM Building Fund, P.O. Box 1080, Dobson, NC  27017; or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the family.
