Mr. James Junior Jessup, 74, of 1322 Grove Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born July 4, 1935, in Surry County, to the late Ora Wayne and Versie Mae East Jessup. He was a retired stonecutter from W.P. Simmons, Inc. and a member of Temple Baptist Church for 32 years. Surviving are his wife, Doris Louise Tolbert Jessup of the home; a daughter, Teresa Chappell of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Allan and Kimberly Jessup of Mount Airy and Rufus Wayne Jessup of Cuyahaga Falls, OH; five grandchildren, Johnathan Jessup, Olivia Jessup, Marie Chappell, Ashley Chappell, and Carl Wayne Jessup; three great-grandchildren; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Anna and Paul Cannon of Statesville, Wanda and Charles Martin of Stanleyville, Vera Sue Jessup of Kernersville, and Frankie Haynes and Shirley Ryan, both of Mount Airy; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Clifton and Donnie Jessup of Mount Airy, Charles and Darlene Jessup of Elizabeth City, Ora Weldon and Ann Jessup of Clingman, Paul and Edna Jessup of Asheville, and Larry Gray Jessup of Georgia; and three special neighbors, Ron Mills and Harold and Margie Moorefield, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jessup was preceded in death by three sisters, Nina Mae Brewer, Ruth Haynes, and Janet Harris. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church, with the Rev. Zane Fishel and Brother Don Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Grove Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church, where his body will remain until the time of the service.
