James "Jim" Wilson Ayers

Mr. James Wilson Ayers, 91, of Cana, VA passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Surry Community Health and Rehab.  He was born in Carroll County, VA on September 9, 1927 to the late Clarence Alva and Ona Hiatt Ayers.  Mr. Ayers bravely served our country during World War II.  He retired from United Technology and was attended Willow Hill Moravian Church.  Mr. Ayers is survived by his loving wife Nellie Ruth Gwyn Ayers; sons, Bruce Ayers and wife Norma, Shannon Ayers and wife Leesa; grandchildren, Mattew Ayers and wife Kara, Bradley Ayers and wife Kayla, Grace Worrell and husband Jake, Ryne Ayers and wife Jasmine; great grandchildren, Cameron, Rylan and Hayden Ayers; a sister, Lucy Hendrick.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by sisters, Hassie Ayers, Cassie Hiatt, Lassie Fleming, Gladys Willis, Esther Mae Hendrick and Thelma Ayers; brothers, Bobby, Hoston, Wayne and Elmer “Buck” Ayers.  The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy Thursday evening, October 18, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A private service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Willow Hill Moravian Church Cemetery Fund, 577 Willow Hill Rd., Ararat, VA 24053.  Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
