James "Jimmie" Justice of Stuart passed away on Sunday, September 19. He lived for 89 years and one day. He died peacefully in his sleep after suffering a mild stroke and fall, 12 days earlier.
Jimmie, or "Choo-Choo" to his friends, was born in Stuart on September 18, 1932. He lived the majority of his life in Patrick County. He graduated from Hardin Reynolds Memorial School, playing baseball and basketball during his junior and senior years. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army, serving as a medic during the Korean War. Jimmie also retired from J.P Elastometrics after almost 30 years of service.
Jimmie enjoyed a special closeness to his friends and family the last few weeks of his life. Those family members he was grateful to see were Regena Shough (James), Jim Odell (Marcella), Ken Justice (Andrea), Betty Justice Anderson and Tara Scott, caregiver. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Carlene, his parents Walter and Elsie and a brother William (Bud).
Throughout his life he was active in softball, bowling and especially golf. Over the years he was a member of all the local golf clubs and travelled throughout Virginia and the Carolinas on golfing trips with his friends.
Choo, an old car enthusiast, was especially proud to drive around the county in the 1940 Ford Convertible that he restored himself.
A celebration of life will be held October 9, 2021 at the Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd, VA. A "19th Hole" dinner will be served from 4:00-5:00 with a brief service starting at 5:00. Everyone is encouraged to wear their luckiest golf shirt in honor of Choo.
