James "Jimmy" Albert Layman

        Mr. James “Jimmy” Albert Layman, age 77 of Stuart, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at his home.  He was born in Burlington, North Carolina on September 23, 1941, to the late Georgia Layman Lawson. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step-father Eugene Lawson.  Jimmy retired from Bassett Chair Company with 38 years of service and faithfully served in the U.S. Army during the Korea war. After retirement, he enjoyed driving the senior citizen's bus for S.T.E.P. and was a member at Trinity Baptist Church. Jimmy will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a caring friend.

        Mr. Layman is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Christina Elizabeth Hughes Layman; one daughter, Peggy Layman Lankford of Claudville, VA; one son, James Richard Layman of Stuart, VA; two grandchildren, Aaron Blake Lankford and Jamie Nicholas Lankford; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Barbara Lawson of Stuart, VA; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rachel and Jerry Love of Claudville; several loving nieces and nephews;  special friends, Ed and Wyonna Scott of Florida; and special church buddy, Landon.

        Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Chad Harrison officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lawson Family Cemetery.  Military rites will be provided by the Patrick County Veterans Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service and at other times at the home.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist School, 6201 Claudville Hwy, Claudville, VA 24076.  Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
