James Calvin Johnson, Sr



Mr. James Calvin Johnson, Sr., 86, of Mount Airy, a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 12, 2010. Mr. Johnson was born April 25, 1924, in Surry County, son of the late Lewis Matthew and Annie Mae Goard Johnson. James retired as a shipping supervisor from Montaire Corporation in Pilot Mountain and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Mount Airy. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kay Johnson Aycock and the Rev. Dr. Roger H. Aycock of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Brenda Johnson of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jim and Joni Johnson and Cindy and Steve Huffman, all of Winston-Salem, Anthony and Regina Aycock of Charlotte, and Diana and Jason Duncan of Thomasville; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Johnson, Elijah Johnson, and Norah Duncan; three step-great-grandchildren, Jessie Sweigart, Michaela McPherson, and Nathan Hicks; and a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Hobert and Polly Johnson of Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lorraine Midkiff Johnson; and a brother, Edd Johnson. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 14, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Marcia McQueen officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Randy McCraw, 120 Burnley Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
