James Newton King

Mr. James Newton King, 73, of 125 Gillwalt Way, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, October 22, 2009, at his home. Mr. King was born August 29, 1936, in Surry County, to the late Walter Swain and Gillie Ruth Smith King. Newton served our country in the United States Navy during the 1950s and was the owner and operator of King Electric for many years. He attended Bannertown Baptist Church and was a member of Lambsburg Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lois Hawks King of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Rusty Mantz of Mount Airy; a son, Steve King of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren and their spouses, Misty and Adam Duggan of Littleport, England, and Holly and Brad Johnson of Mount Airy; two step-grandchildren and a spouse, Amanda and Darren Sechrist and Mitchell Mantz, all of Mount Airy; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb Duggan, Aydin Duggan, and Logan Duggan, all of Littleport, England; a step-great-grandchild, Connor Sechrist of Mount Airy; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Creed of Kernersville, Mabel and Donald Shaw of Winston-Salem, Doris and Charles Vernon and Cecil France, all of Mount Airy; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Stanley and Joan King of Trinity and Jane King of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by a sister, Goldie France; and a brother, Winfred King. The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 24, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Lee Boyette officiating. Entombment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
