Mr. James Lee “Jim” Smith, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday evening, February 16, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born January 23, 1937, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Carl and Flora Elizabeth Boyd Smith. He was a simple man who lived a simple life. Jim loved his family, especially his grandchildren and Tom the cat. He loved to visit with friends and family and was loved by all that knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Lonnie Campbell; his grandchildren, Hannah Goins, Jacob Goins, Courtney and James Reavis, and Christopher Campbell; his great-grandchildren, Ava Marie and Kai Reavis; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Susan and Oscar Combs and Betty Watts; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Clarence and Mamie Smith, William “Bill” Junior Smith, Jack Smith, Alvin Smith, and Susie Smith; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Frances Ruth Ramey Smith; six brothers, Milton Carl Smith, Jesse Kyle Smith, Donald D. Smith, Raleigh Swanson Smith, Hassell Gene Smith, and Calvin Gray Smith; and a brother-in-law, Turner Watts. The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 21, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jason Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Forsyth Medical Center for all the love and care shown to Jim during his illness.
