Mr. James Earnest Mannon, 66, of 414 Oak Ridge Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Monday night, November 15, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Mannon was born July 25, 1944, in Knox County, TN, son of the late Paul and Alma Sisk Mannon. James served our country in the United States Army during the 60s. He retired as a millwright from General Motors Corporation after 31 years of service and was currently working at D and L Construction Company in Winston-Salem. Mr. Mannon was a member of a Masonic lodge in Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Bonnie Ratcliff Mannon of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jacqueline and Matthew Bering of Grand Blanc, MI, and Michelle Mannon of Corinth, TX; three stepdaughters, Renee Grant and Jennifer Wheeler, both of Mount Airy, and Sheila Parish and her husband, Gabe, of Kalamazoo, MI; two grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Debbie Kingsley, Dovie and Mark Crissman, and Paula Warner, all of Allegan, MI, and Mary and Leonard Curtis of Plainwell, MI; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Gary and Judy Mannon and Henry and Robin Mannon, all of Allegan, MI, Roy and Rachel Mannon of Chattanooga, TN, Mike and Jodi Mannon of Cross Plains, TN, and Jack Mannon of Montana; and a special pet, Leah. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mannon was preceded in death by a brother, George Mannon. The funeral service will be Friday, November 19, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Mac Cassell and the Rev. Adam Ratcliff officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
