James Glenn McCraw

Mr. James Glenn McCraw, 94, of Cana, VA, passed away Friday, September 10, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. McCraw was born June 9, 1916, in Carroll County, VA, to the late James Achilles and Hattie Venable McCraw. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as a teacher from Surry County Schools and was a member and deacon at New Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. McCraw is survived by his wife, Betty Leitch Burton McCraw of the home; several nieces and nephews; a special niece, Melba Speight of Galax, VA; and four special nephews, Cheryle McCraw and Keith McCraw, both of Cana, VA, and Allen Burton and Coley Burton, both of Mount Airy; and a special friend and "adopted son," Mark Stevens of Mount Airy. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Oakdale Cemetery, by the Rev. Jimmy McCraw. There will not be a formal visitation. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy will be assisting the McCraw family.
