Mr. James Lawrence McMillon, 76, of 136 Kibler Valley Road, Ararat, VA, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, at his home. Mr. McMillon was born November 12, 1933, in Surry County, son of the late John and Dorothy Bullington McMillon. Lawrence served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He proudly served as a deputy sheriff in Patrick County for several years and was later a tour bus driver. Mr. McMillon was a member of the Church of Christ in Stuart, VA. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Terrie and Alan Gwyn of Ararat, VA; two grandsons, Jordan Blake McMillion and Joshua Taylor McMillion, both of Ararat, VA; two stepgrandsons, Joshua Alan Gwyn and Matthew Dylan Gwyn, both of Tennessee; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rita Bowman of Claudville, VA, and Frances and S.C. Hamlin of Dobson; a brother, Clarence Ray McMillon of Dobson; a special cousin, Pauline Whitlow of Florida; and a special friend, Karen Young of Roanoke, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. McMillon was preceded in death by his wife, Bordie Nunn McMillon; a son, Bryan Keith McMillon; and a brother, Wayne McMillon. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Mr. James Percival and the Rev. Don Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in the Church of Christ Cemetery, with military honors by the Patrick County VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
