James Melton

Mr. James Russell Melton, 92, of Cana, VA, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family, Friday, June 18, 2021.  He was born in Carroll County, May 28, 1929, to the late Harvey Jeff and Mary Lee Meredith Melton.  Mr. Melton was a soft spoken, strong, hardworking man that loved his family and friends.  He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, and retired from Baker Drive-A-Way.  Mr. Melton is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Bonnie and Sherman Easter, Tammy and Mike Hill, Vickie and Ed Barnes, and Trudy and Timothy Towe; a son Terry Melton; seventeen grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Utt, Ida Jean Huff, Wanda Sawyers; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Jane Melton.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Myrtle “Toots” Combs Melton; a son Leslie Melton; sisters, Juanita Bolt and Ruth Easter, Edith Horton and Arlene Horton; and brothers, Edgar Melton and Burley Melton.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Combs and Rev.
