James Russell "Jimmy" Nixon

Mr. James Russell “Jimmy” Nixon, 71, of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was born in Surry County on August 15, 1944 to the late, Elwood and Rena Calloway Nixon. Mr. Nixon was retired from Cross Creek Apparel and was of the Baptist faith. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Slate Nixon of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Jeff Cullman of Columbus, OH; a son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Sherilyn Nixon of Greenville, SC; three precious grandchildren, Dylan Cullman, Nicole Cullman, and Lauren Cullman; a sister, Betty Wilson of Winston Salem; a sister-in-law, Frances Nixon of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Billie and Faye Slate of Mt. Airy; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nixon was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Norris and Barbara Nixon and Roger Nixon and also by his mother-in-law, Gertie Slate. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 12, 2016 at 12:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Butch Holder officiating. Burial will follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
