James Wesley Scales

Mr. James Wesley "Jimmy" Scales, 64, of Ararat, VA, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010, at his home. Mr. Scales was born March 29, 1945, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Jefferson Davis Scales, Sr. and Gladys Gates Scales. He was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from Wayne Farms. He was a member of the NRA and VFW. He was a cancer survivor and donated to various charities. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dolores "Dee" and John Reeves of Denver, NC; a son, Jefferson Davis Scales, III, FL; three grandchildren, Heather Reeves of Denver, Kristen Moore and her husband, Andy, of Huntersville, and Michelle Elks of Huntersville; five great-grandchildren, Matthias Moore, Lina Moore, Hailey Huffman, Abbey Barbour, and Emily Elks; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Daisy and Tommy Barnard, Annie Tolbert, Rachel Barnes, and Jane and Mike Fulk, all of Ararat, VA, and Fay Young of Claudville, VA; and a brother, Jefferson D. "J.D." Scales, Jr. of the home. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scales was preceded in death by three brothers, John C. Scales, Jasper S. Scales, and Jerry B. Scales. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Joseph Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Hunters Chapel Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
