James "Buddy" Vance Shackelford, Sr

Mr. James “Buddy” Vance Shackelford, Sr., 78 of Mount Airy, passed away January 17, 2017 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Shackelford was born in Surry County on June 14, 1938 to the late Fate and Ruth Johnson Shackelford. Mr. Shackelford was a retired from the hosiery industry and farming. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Oakley Shackelford; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kim and Randy Bullins, Kathy Lynn Shackelford; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Vance Shackelford, Jr., and Shane and Angela Shackelford; step-children, Stephanie Smith, Kimberly Pierce and James Jarvis; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several step-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, JC and Carol Shackelford. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shackelford was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Nunn. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Laurel Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Blaine Oakley and Rev. Brian Pack officiating with burial to follow in the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends at Laurel Springs Baptist Church on Thursday night January 19, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Vatca of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and to the staff of Woltz Hospice Home especially to Cindy Aldea. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
