James Reginald Shumate

Mr. James Reginald “Reggie” Shumate, 71, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, May 3, 2018, at W.G. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.  Mr. Shumate was born September 1, 1946, in Wilkes County, to the Rev. Charles Ray and Mary Ann Martin Shumate.  Reggie served our country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He worked at Silo Run Golf Course in Boonville and was a member of Christ Community Church.  He is survived by a son, Reggie Lee “Little Reggie” Shumate of Bowling Green, KY; a grandson, Kaden Shumate of Bowling Green, KY; his mother, Mary Ann Martin Shumate of Mount Airy; and a brother, Jeffrey Scott Shumate of Pilot Mountain.  Mr. Shumate was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Charles Ray Shumate.  The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Christ Community Church, with Dr. David J. Brady officiating.  Burial will follow in the Dover Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Christ Community Church.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
