James Henry Smith

Mr. James Henry "Beaver" Smith, 63, of 183 Cedar Ridge Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at his home. Mr. Smith was born September 21, 1944, in Surry County, to the late Henry Luther and Susie Rochelle Hickman Smith. "Beaver" was a truck driver for the North Carolina Department of Transportation for 20 years. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann Smith of Mount Airy; a son, Joseph Edward Smith of Mount Airy; two stepdaughters, Susie Bowman of Gastonia and Linda Johnson of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Clark and Bernice Carter, both of Gastonia, and Thelma Smith of Mount Airy; and a brother, David Smith of Charlotte. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a wife, Myra Lorene Smith; and a son, Henry Andrew Smith. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 19, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Bill Spurlin and the Rev. Donald G. Bryant, Sr. officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
