James Vance Stewart, Sr

Mr. James Vance Stewart, Sr., 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Twin County Hospital in Galax, VA. Mr. Stewart was born April 16, 1932, in Surry County, to Harvey P. and Minnie Creed Stewart. He was co-owner of North Carolina Twine and Cordage Company and was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon Key of Winston-Salem and Pamela and Tim Harris of Elkin; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim Stewart, Jr. and Betsy of Raleigh; grandchildren, Shana Key, Ryan Boland, and Brianna Stewart; and two sisters, Thelma Oaks of Greensboro and Louise Marsh of Ararat. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Norman Stewart. The funeral service will be held Monday, January 26, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Elmo Hiatt officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with Masonic rites by the Copeland Masonic Lodge #390 AF and AM. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
