James Edgar Tate

Mr. James Edgar Tate, 61 of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday morning, October 28, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Tate was born in Forsyth County on June 17, 1955 to Edgar “Edd” Glennwood Tate and Martha “Lorraine” Harrell Tate. Mr. Tate had a love for woodworking and auto racing. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife, Sharon “Kay” Tate of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie Tate Edwards and Lee of Mt. Airy, and Tiffany Smith and Brian of Mt. Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chad Smith Tate and Christina Carol Tate of Mt. Airy, and William Charles Smith of Dobson, eight grandchildren, Jacobie Edwards, Daniel Smith Tate, Aaden Smith Tate, Aliyah Smith Tate, McKenzie Smith, Jacob Smith, Madison Smith, and Jackson Smith; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and David Taylor, Susie and Norman Holt, Phyllis and Ansley Martin; and Valerie and Melvin Dollyhite all of Mt. Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Freida Tate, and Steve and Kitty Tate both of Mt. Airy; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Hazel Tate Mills of Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with Rev. Don Fellows officiating with burial to follow in the Peoples Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Moody Funeral Services, Inc., PO Box 1288, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 to assist the family with funeral expenses.
